Hungry Joe's Tripple Cheese & Pepperoni Lasagne.

Hungry Joe's are described as "SERIOUSLY SATISFYING MEALS FOR ONE" so to start with, everything about this promises to be filling. Now I have a choice, 50 minutes in the oven, or 11 minutes in the microwave.

11minutes later here's how it looks: not bad but it doesn't look that as cheesy as I'd hoped

TIP:
Nobody wants to eat the food out of a plastic dish, sure it would save on washing up, but who cares? I have a dishwasher. Anyway the point is when its a lasagne you have to remove it from the dish without  ruining the form. there's a special place reserved in hell for people who turn their lasagne upside down. just run a knife down the side all the way around and then try slide it under one end, lift the end as you tip the tray and allow your meal to slide onto the plate

Nailed it!

I take my first bite and my fears of not enough cheese vanished in a creamy glory. the pasta was perfect, nice and soft(the edges probably would have crisped up nicely if I had done it in the oven.) The mince left a little to be desired, was fairly plain and slightly watery, but the peperoni was nice, although I would have preferred full sized pizza style peperoni and not the mini ones.

As promised this was filling, not overly so, but no need for a side unless you tend to eat loads.

£2 is definitely worth an entire meal especially one this tasty!

All in all a good value meal nice and filling exactly as described on the box and only a few minor let downs

My rating: 4 stars!

Asda's Indian chicken korma with pilau rice

This korma is from Asda's "chosen by you range" and here's the description on the box "Tender pieces of marinated chicken breast with sweet coconut and a handful of spice" in my 800w microwave it takes 6 minutes (stirring halfway through of course) I could oven cook it for 25 minutes, but why wait? they don't say one gives better results than the other.

first impressions: uncooked it doesn't look too bad, nothing special, it doesn't put me off nor does it have me salivating.

quick tip: A friend once told me always make the rice into a small well before adding the curry, it's easier to mix and looks more presentable, even if it is just for yourself.

Here's the finished product, well not finished, but you know what I mean

When cooked: So it looks nice with the little bay leaf on top which they include for flavour, not to eat. but if you look closely you can see its slightly oily and maybe a little watery

Let's eat: So the fist mouthful I try get a bit of each element of the meal, which isn't hard because of the way its mixed, as a collective its... pleasing, it certainly doesn't taste as oily as it appears. With the second swoop of my fork I collect some rice and some sauce. The rice is al dente which isn't to my taste but its definitely edible, enjoyable even. Next I stab a piece of chicken I have to push harder with my fork than anticipated, and when I bite, its chewy, not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely not the best texture for chicken rubbery in the nicest possible way.
The sauce was loose, I prefer it more as a paste, and this was liquid definitely the worst component of it all.

All in all: I enjoyed it for the most part, flavours were good and textures were mediocre. It was sweet. and it did have a hint of spice as promised but the dish was let down by an excess of water and I was left wondering if oven would have given better results. a filling dish for £1.50 but maybe grab yourself a naan too.

final score: 4/5

introduction

Hi I'm Oliver, welcome to the laziest food blog on the internet. I recently found myself living alone, and although I feel I am a (fairly) competent cook, I don't want to cook. For no other reason than it would be just for me and it seems like a bit of a waste of time. So like a lot of you I'm sure I often rely of ready meals, weather they're microwavable or straight from freezer to oven. As we all know the quality can vary substantially between brands, so I'm going to bring you the ultimate guide on ready made food.

I will review at least one a week, and rate them on price, aesthetics, how easy they are to cook and of
course, taste. I will also post pictures so you can see for yourselves what I'm eating.

I'm not a gourmet, I've never tasted Michelin star food, I'm just the everyman, trying to help you eat better tasting food. after all there's nothing better than getting settle in front of the T.V with your food to find out the potato in your chips is still raw, or the naan bread that comes with your curry could be substituted with cardboard and no one would know.
