first impressions: uncooked it doesn't look too bad, nothing special, it doesn't put me off nor does it have me salivating.
quick tip: A friend once told me always make the rice into a small well before adding the curry, it's easier to mix and looks more presentable, even if it is just for yourself.
Here's the finished product, well not finished, but you know what I mean
When cooked: So it looks nice with the little bay leaf on top which they include for flavour, not to eat. but if you look closely you can see its slightly oily and maybe a little watery
Let's eat: So the fist mouthful I try get a bit of each element of the meal, which isn't hard because of the way its mixed, as a collective its... pleasing, it certainly doesn't taste as oily as it appears. With the second swoop of my fork I collect some rice and some sauce. The rice is al dente which isn't to my taste but its definitely edible, enjoyable even. Next I stab a piece of chicken I have to push harder with my fork than anticipated, and when I bite, its chewy, not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely not the best texture for chicken rubbery in the nicest possible way.
The sauce was loose, I prefer it more as a paste, and this was liquid definitely the worst component of it all.
All in all: I enjoyed it for the most part, flavours were good and textures were mediocre. It was sweet. and it did have a hint of spice as promised but the dish was let down by an excess of water and I was left wondering if oven would have given better results. a filling dish for £1.50 but maybe grab yourself a naan too.
